Igneous @ Gallery 408

Six of my Igneous Series pieces are hanging at Gallery 408 right now. It gives me a lot of joy to see them hanging together again and in this new light. Creating this series was simultaneously a cathartic personal experience for me and a wonderful artistic journey in terms of process. They appear joyful in this arrangement and declare moments of transition and reconstitution. I am so pleased to be showing them again. Thank you, Gallery 408!

It's one month to World Art Day 2023 - April 15

SEGMENTS

I created a series of paintings titled SEGMENTS for the ArtZoZo Collector’s Circle, inspired by Kalidasa’s poem, “Salutation to the Dawn”. I truly enjoyed making this series and I imagine that this fun and joyfully meditative process will return in new form to my artmaking visions in the future …

IGNEOUS series

As I continue working on my Igneous series, I've come to believe that I'll always being making Igneous pieces ... I always want to be growing, changing, morphing, transcending, adventuring ...

These works were inspired while contemplating igneous rock and a devastated heart … Igneous rock is formed by the cooling and solidifying of molten material … the word is derived from the Latin, Ignis, meaning fire … Another description I found is, “extremely hot molten rock from the deep recesses of the earth make its way out and ignites everything it comes into contact with … once the liquid cools down, in igneous rock is formed …

I am reminded of the ever present beauty of a magnificent heart … even when the heat of devastation has melted away what was … and it can never be the same … in time, when the acute anguish cools … and when the choice for freedom is found … then the pain will not be wasted … something new will form … strong and stable and crystallized … transcendent of fire and heat …

Kintsugi

I have started a new painting series inspired by “Kintsugi” which is to patch with gold … it repairs with beauty … not trying to conceal a break … rather, it celebrates exquisite mending … understanding that we are stronger and more beautiful for having been broken … that fractures are essential moments in our history … that “the world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places”…

I was thinking about the idea of being “sundered” … torn in two … parted … shattered … like a broken bone … and I started a very big painting … but I was bothered by it because I didn’t want to end it broken … was struggling with it …

Then I got a post from a dear friend … which kinda felt like bad timing at that moment … but I opened it and it referenced an article which led to another … and several later, the text referenced Kintsugi … so I looked that up … and there was my answer …

Golden     Joinery

The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powered gold, silver, or platinum … it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
